Prerequisite:  Students should be strong readers, adequate spellers, have an understanding of the eight parts of speech and basic English sentence structure

Description: The first six weeks of this course provides a solid foundation for any student regardless of previous Latin exposure.  After the students have gained a basic foundation, they move into the curriculum Ecce Romani.  The objectives of this course include learning Latin vocabulary, conjugating, and declining.  Further, students will learn to translate and read Latin as well as become proficient in English grammar and sentence structure.  Students will begin to speak Latin through in-class question and response sessions, based on translations from their weekly assignments.  A study of Roman history and culture are utilized to further develop and broaden students’ understanding of Latin and the culture in which it was spoken.  Students should expect at least 2.5 hours of homework per week, and parental oversight is strongly encouraged.
