Description: There’s no getting away from it: movies and music are the number one source of media input in our world today, but not all input from these media sources is profitable. Through watching movies and listening to music both in and out of class, students will learn, from a biblical world view, how to develop discernment in experiencing movies and music. There will be guided discussion on a full array of timely issues for the Christian member of our society. This is a forum for young people to wrestle through some tough, culturally relevant issues for themselves, and be able to give an answer for what they believe. Our movie list is: Wolverine: Origins, The Golden Compass, War of the Worlds, Gladiator, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Premonition, Evan Almighty, and To Save a Life. (This list is subject to change.) Note: we will be using a filter for nudity, harsh language and explicit sensuality. Possible artists for evaluation: Taylor Swift, Owl City, Lady GaGa, Coldplay, Switchfoot, Breaking Benjamin, Showbread, Flyleaf, and others. We will include music from the pop, rock, country, metal, hip-hop, and electronic genres. Homework will include: interviews, Bible study, research, in-class debate, writing movie and band reviews, watching a movie in a theater and reviewing it, writing an essay, and verbal presentations.
