Description: Because Latin is a “pure” language with minimal exceptions to the rule, it is an excellent vehicle for learning English grammar as well as how language as a whole is put together. In this class, students will learn five functions of nouns and how to form three tenses of verbs. They will learn the terminology of language and be able to logically determine the function of words in a sentence. Students must be able to memorize, as Latin is an inflective language requiring the memorization of noun and verb endings. In addition, students will be expected to memorize about 250 Latin words. For those students desiring a full language credit, a project will be assigned each semester. Access to e-mail and the internet is required. Students typically spend 3 hours per week completing assignments outside of class for a full credit.
